Dreamin’ of Spring

Watermark Theatre is thrilled to announce a spring concert, Dreamin’ of Spring, featuring two dynamic east coast artists. Meaghan Blanchard (PEI) and Gabrielle Papillon (NS). Meaghan Blanchard and Gabrielle Papillon came together in 2017 as part of a Music PEI songwriting project. Their pairing created a magic that the two felt so strongly about, they created a songwriting duo that continues on. They will each perform solo sets and then sing a couple of their co-written songs.

Watermark Theatre will partner with sponsor North Rustico Home Hardware Building Centre to present Dreamin’ of Spring on Friday, March 16, 2018.

Desserts will be served at intermission; provided by creative North Rustico caterers, The Yellow House!

Meaghan Blanchard
Originally from Hunter River, multiple ECMA and Music PEI award winning Meaghan Blanchard has spent her entire young adult life touring and recording her self-penned songs, spreading her music across Canada, the UK and the USA. It was in the spring of 2016 that Meaghan, after realizing how out of balance she was feeling, made one of the best creative decisions of her career. She slowed down her touring schedule, packed up her things and moved to a little cottage on the Mill River, in West Prince, PEI. There she wrote her new collection of songs for the upcoming 2018 release “The Great Escape”. This album captures Meaghan’s 27th year: a year of love, belonging and deep heartache. “The Great Escape” was produced by Jim Bryson, in 2017 and will be released in the spring of 2018.

Gabrielle Papillon
“This is the kind of music that’s going to make you stop in your tracks. One of the finest new songwriters in Canada.”
–Tom Power, host of CBC’s Deep Roots

“When you come to your knees / when you hold what you need / you will know what to keep,” sings Gabrielle Papillon near the end of her sixth, most adventurous album. Hear it as a promise, hear it as a mantra, hear it as a weary warning from someone who’s been there—the sweeping and heart-piercing “Keep the Fire” album is packed full of thoughts like this: wise and poignant, empathetic and understanding, open to interpretation. Papillon’s music, too, is now open to interpretation—though it remains confidently, almost nonchalantly rooted in folk strumming and gentle vocal phrasings, on Keep the Fire she has embraced her pop leanings and pushed them to the forefront. Gabrielle’s awards include 2015 Music Nova Scotia Recording of the Year.
