In the Gregorian calendar, New Year’s Eve (also known as Old Year’s Day or Saint Sylvester’s Day in many countries), the last day of the year, is on 31 December. In many countries, New Year’s Eve is celebrated at evening social gatherings, where many people dance, eat, drink, and watch or light fireworks. Some Christians attend a watchnight service. The celebrations generally go on past midnight into New Year’s Day, 1 January.

Tonga and Kiritimati (Christmas Island), part of Kiribati, are examples of the first places to welcome the New Year while Baker Island in the United States of America is among the last.

BEE GEES GOLD –The Ultimate Bee Gees Tribute

Bee Gees Gold is the ultimate salute and tribute experience of seeing the Bee Gees in their prime – LIVE ONCE AGAIN! With the detailed vocal stylings of John Acosta (Barry), Daryll Borges (Robin), & Jeff Celentano (Maurice) as the brothers Gibb, this show gives you a sensation that will make you blurt out: “Wow..I’ve just seen and heard the Bee Gees!”

Backed by a live band, this Vegas Bee Gees tribute recreates the look and sound of the Bee Gees from the 60’s to the late 70’s. John Acosta as Barry Gibb has performed in Bee Gees tributes all over the world. His portrayal of lead singer Barry Gibb is with a zest for detail like no other.

From their looks to their falsettos, this group puts on a one-of-a-kind tribute performance to the Bee Gees. They’ll be performing such early hits as “Massachusetts” & “I Started a Joke” to the later disco classics “Stayin’ Alive,” & “You Should Be Dancing.” Experience it for yourself this January.

Sing Along with Messiah

Choral Music Programme: Sing Along Messiah

| St. James Presbyterian Church

During this popular festive gathering with the Confederation Singers, the audience is encouraged to sing along with the choir while it performs selections from George Frederic Handel’s renowned choral work. Presented at the stunning Kirk of St. James, admission is by donation in support of the Centre’s 2019 Youth Chorus Tour to New York City.

Written in 1741, Messiah is the most famous creation of German composer George Frederic Handel, and its performance still awes listeners more than 250 years after the composer’s death. Ludwig van Beethoven himself, citing Messiah, said that Handel was the “greatest composer that ever lived.”

Donations gathered at this concert in support of the 2020 Youth Chorus Tour to Toronto.

A Fortunate Christmas

| The Mack

Fortunate Ones duo Catherine Allan and Andrew O’Brien know a lot about what it takes to make a good partnership.

Their sophomore album, HOLD FAST, is a study in resilience and community and sees the duo stretching their musical muscles into new, fully realized sonic territory. Filled with the familiar and effortless harmony, boundless energy and optimism that has gained the duo thousands of fans, HOLD FAST, produced by ECMA award winning producer, Daniel Ledwell, is a collective effort that has yielded songs from a pair whose humility and quiet dignity belies a roaring artistic heart. The title track “Hold Fast” hit #1 on the CBC Music Top 20 Chart and remained in the Top 20 for 10 weeks. The album also took home three Music NL Awards in 2018: Pop Artist of the Year, Video of the Year for Northern Star (directed by Jason Levangie) and Album of the Year.

Expect choice selections from across their albums, including All Will Be Well, their holiday recording that features both classic and original songs about the duo’s own joy and nostalgia for the season. For Fortunate Ones, Christmas is a time of year for reflection, appreciation, and gratitude and they hope that these sentiments come through with this intimate and heart-warming live show.

“Fortunate Ones are fully contemporary, yet when you watch them you can’t help but feel you’re watching the ‘next in line’ of great Newfoundland entertainers.”
— Tom Power, CBC Radio

“Fortunate Ones are a rare gem. Two voices singing as one.”
— Alan Doyle, Great Big Sea
