Beneath Springhill Beyond Fionna

Due to Hurricane Fiona, Watermark Theatre was forced to postpone their production of Beneath Springhill: The Maurice Ruddick Story, originally scheduled from September 28th to October 8th. The new dates for the production will be November 30th to December 10th, 2022. At the time, the theatre was without power and Islanders were dealing with the aftermath of the storm, warranting the decision to postpone.

“Our theatre, like many theatres across the country, has learned to pivot”, says Artistic Director Robert Tsonos, “whether adapting through years of Covid lockdowns and restrictions, or a powerful hurricane, we have learned to become a resilient bunch of artists. This inspirational play about surviving a disaster seems even more important to present to our audience today than it did a few weeks ago. I’m thrilled that we were able to find new dates that worked for all involved and urge people to come and see this magnificent play.”

For those who had tickets booked for a previous date, Watermark will be contacting you in the next day or two about rebooking for another date. If you are unavailable at that time you may save the credit for a later production, get a refund, or the theatre will forward the cost of your ticket as a donation to the Red Cross’s Hurricane Fiona in Canada Appeal. If you have any questions please contact Watermark by email at info@watermarktheatre.com or call 902-963-3963.

An inspirational play about surviving a disaster, Beneath Springhill: The Maurice Ruddick Story by Beau Dixon tells the incredible story of “the singing miner,” an African-Canadian who survived nine days underground during the historic Springhill mining disaster of 1958. This multi-award-winning one-man show performed by Beau Dixon recalls the events during the disaster, the effect it had on Ruddick’s family, and the racial tensions in the town of Springhill. The play is a celebration of hope, courage and community. Directed and developed by Linda Kash. Music by Susan Newman and Lyrics by Rob Fortin.
