7th Story Window Ledge Story

March 8, 2019 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm at The Guild
Fast-paced and full of energy, this sophisticated satire takes place on the window ledge of a seven-storey apartment building where a man is contemplating suicide.

Unknown

Endlessly interrupted by a variety of quirky, self-absorbed tenants, he becomes drawn into the absurdity of their daily lives.

7 STORIES is a meta-theatrical gem of a black comedy, full of eccentric characters with a wistfully existential conclusion.

This is the Festival’s first full-length production, and first Canadian work. 2019 marks 30 years since the premiere of this Canadian classic by multi-award winning Canadian playwright Morris Panych.

But he’s putting movies and TV shows aside to go out and do what he loves most. Live stand up comedy. For all of Spring James is on the road again and this is his only Summerside date in 2019!

In April 2016, James sold out New Brunswick’s biggest indoor venue Harbour Station with his uniquely hilarious stand up show. This record breaking show was documented for a CBC documentary film ‘City On Fire’ (which you can watch here: https://youtu.be/MJRItrjyHnY) which has aired across Canada to rave reviews and high ratings. James tours extensively to packed houses across Canada and England and written and produced a big screen feature film starring actors from Downton Abbey and Twilight about his early years in stand up, which was described as “unmissable” by GQ Magazine and “essential viewing. A funny, realistic look at what it takes to become a stand up comedian,” by the Montreal Times.

James is one of Canada’s biggest cheerleaders. He loves it here and spends his time promoting it across the world and raising money for charities and non-profits. James has raised more than $100,000 for Maritimes charities. He has also become one of Canada’s top comics, being nominated for both a Just For Laughs comedy award and a Canadian Comedy Award for Best Live Show.

He is also a much sought after corporate clean comedian and keynote speaker on the subjects of marketing, media and uplifting positivity celebrating where you live and work. Performing his keynote speech ‘Anything Is Possible’ for companies as varied as Irving Oil, TD Canada, New Brunswick School Board, Construction Association of Nova Scotia, Road Builders Association, Atlantic Canada Regional Council of Carpenters, the Crane Rental Association of North America, Moosehead Breweries, New Brunswick Immigration Symposium and hundreds more. A highly skilled MC, he has hosted the 2017 East Coast Music Awards, the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards, The ContactNB Awards and the GQ Comedy Extravaganza featuring Russell Peters.

He also launched his own international magazine The Maritime Edit (www.maritimeedit.com) to share his love of the small towns and cities of Atlantic Canada with the rest of the world.

Going the Gadfly

Urban Roots Dance Crew ‘GADFLY’ Takes Centre Stage January 31
thumbnail_image005

The crew is led by directors Ofilion Sinbadinho and Apolonia Velasquez, who created their signature Aybrid Movement style, an urban dance style with a twist. Born from Chilean and Guatemalan parents Velasquez and Salvadorian native, Sinbadinho have been creative collaborators for almost two decades. Both Francophones raised in Montreal, they established GADFLY in Toronto, an urban dance-rooted company that “challenges established formats with moves that will set you back in your seat”, according to a recent Toronto Star review.

As a Repertoire Dance Company, GADFLY has been moving people, posing provocative questions through their works, and fusing styles and inspirations since 2006. With their full evening production of ‘Klorofyl,’ GADFLY was the recipient of the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Performance. They have also been commissioned to create work across Canada for events and organizations such as Festival DansEncore, Nike, Ryerson University, and for several charitable organizations.

“Extraordinary choreography,” says Christopher Hoile, in a review of the crew for EYE Weekly. “It’s terrifically exciting to see street dance liberated from the robotics of music videos and imbued with emotional expression.”

Don’t miss this thrilling contemporary dance production, a rarity in an Island winter season of live performances! Gadfly makes their Island debut, firing up the Homburg Theatre stage on January 31 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $26 and are available at the box office, online at confederationcentre.com, or via phone at 902-566-1267 (toll free at 1-800-565-0278.)

About Video Phase
Based in Montreal, Canada, Video Phase is the result of the collaboration between two musicians-creators, Julien-Robert and Julien Compagne. Their goal was to develop a new kind of art that equally combines music, video, and technology. The duo creates a synesthesia between their musical and visual universes, one representing the other and vice versa. The visual component of their shows is totally interactive; this gives them the freedom to improvise and preserves the magic of live performance. With the use of technology, they seek to provide the audience with more than a regular concert – a real multi-sensory experience.

About Lumens
Lumens, the second original creation of the group, explores the link between virtual and reality by creating a 3D multi-screen environment projected in front of and around the audience. The two creators give life to music and image in real time, like an interactive musical video game. An immersive multimedia performance with musical instruments like drumpads, electronic instruments, laser frames, motion capture by Kinect, and even… water! A show you need to hear with your own eyes.
