Fayo, Sirène & Matelot (featuring Lennie Gallant and Patricia Richard), SoPA World Music Ensemble, Vishtèn, and special guests. Step into the multicultural world of Music Mosaic featuring some highly accomplished Music PEI Week award nominees: Fayo, Sirène & Matelot (Lennie Gallant and Patricia Richard), SOPA World Music Ensemble, Vishtèn, and special guests. Fayo is a french singer-songwriter by the name of Mario Leblanc. Residing in Mont Carmel, Fayo writes and sings in chiac, a bilingual dialect mixing french, english, and old Acadian words.

Lennie Gallant and Patricia Richard formed the duo Sirène & Matelot and released their self-titled debut album in 2019. With Sirène & Matelot, they wanted to explore songwriting that reflects not only their roots and influences but also their concerns about the current state of the world. Their voices blend seamlessly and their melodies reach beyond language barriers. The Holland College School of Performing Arts (SoPA) World Music Ensemble are students in the popular performing arts program in Charlottetown. They will showcase a variety of different musical genres and instrumentation. For over a decade, the Acadian trio Vishtèn has dazzled audiences with its fiery blend of traditional French songs and original instrumentals that fuse Celtic and Acadian genres with a modern rock sensibility and indie-folk influences.

Soup’s On!

Soup’Art is back!

Come out to the fifth annual event

As part of the 2019 Rendez-vous de la Francophonie, the public is invited to the fifth annual Soup’Art to celebrate International Francophonie Day. This event will take place at Confederation Centre of the Art’s Studio 1, on Wednesday, March 20, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The audience will be served a bevy of delightful soups from many different countries with some gluten-free and vegan options. This experience will be enhanced by a rich exhibition of visual art and crafts created by Island artists and artisans, as well as jazz piano with Todd MacLean and singer-songwriter Fayo.

“SOUP’ART has been tremendously popular. The public enjoyed both the soups and the arts that were on view,” says Monique Lafontaine, French programming and arts education coordinator with the Centre. “This year we are proud to be including a performance by Acadian artist Fayo who now calls P.E.I. home.”

Admission to this event is free and all are welcome. In the spirit of sharing, members of the public are asked to bring cash donation for the Soup Kitchen.

This great event is a partnership of Confederation Centre of the Arts, La Coopérative d’intégration francophone de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard, Fédération culturelle de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard, Carrefour de l’Isle-Saint-Jean, and the World Acadian Congress.
