Live at The Centre

Confederation Centre of the Arts launches Sobey’s LIVE @ The Centre’s 2018- 2019 season with an exciting and diverse collection of performances!

“This is a well-rounded season with something for everyone,” offers Darcy Campbell, Director of LIVE! @ the Centre. “The program includes A-list musicians, family entertainment, pay-what-you-will options, contemporary dance, and more!”

This year’s line-up includes Canadian and Atlantic Canadian artists and performers that truly showcase the wealth of talent in this country, including Brett Kissel, Serena Ryder, Alan Doyle, and comedian Jeremy Hotz, among many others.

Brett Kissel is one of Canada’s leading country music artists and the recipient of numerous Canadian Country Music Association Awards (including Male Artist of the Year) and JUNO awards. He performs at Confederation Centre’s Homburg Theatre October 3 and tickets are now on sale.

Another exciting show in the lineup is Serena Ryder’s holiday performance on December 7. This must- see seasonal concert will feature music from her 2017 record Utopia with the song “Electric Love”. Ryder has won six JUNO awards, and her songs have been placed in more than 50 TV shows and commercials. Her single “Stompa” went platinum four times and has sold more than one million singles from her previous releases.

“This season provides engaging performances – both established and emerging – and keeps the Centre vibrant and accessible year-round. Because LIVE is not a long run of single shows, a great variety can be enjoyed. So, take a look and try something new this season — there’s so much to explore!” says Campbell.

More information and the full line-up of performers can be found on the Confederation Centre website. Tickets for Serena Ryder’s concert and for most other performances go on sale on August 8 with advance sale for Founders Circle members on August 6 and 7. Tickets can be purchased at Confederation Centre Box Office or online.

Special thanks are extended to the Government of Canada for their support of Confederation Centre and to LIVE! @ the Centre’s title sponsor, Sobeys. Appreciation is extended to media sponsors Ocean 100, Hot 105.5, and The Guardian.

When the Price is All in Your Head

LIVE @the Centre is taking a new approach to ticket pricing with a Pay What You Will (PWYW) offer to see Compagnia Baccalà’s  PSS…PSS on March 21 at 6:00 p.m. in the Homburg Theatre. This is the only stop in the Maritimes for the duo on their Canadian tour.

“With PWYW theatre-goers of all walks of life can pay a price that is both fair and affordable,” says Darcy Campbell, Director for LIVE @the Centre. He goes on to explain, “By offering these special performances at a price our patrons set for themselves, we are hoping to reach new audiences.”

On the night of the show, patrons will receive an envelope to insert cash or use the slip inside to pay by credit card. Patrons are then asked to drop their envelopes in the bin located in the lobby, or hand them to staff who will be collecting them in baskets.

Inspired by Chaplin, Keaton and the stars of silent films, this Swiss, two-man team gives a timeless performance of enthralling physicality and exquisite expression. Inventive, exciting, ridiculous, this breathtaking show of mishaps and acrobatics entitled PSS…PSS will have you laughing long after you leave the theatre. Winner of 15 international prizes, including the Cirque Du Soleil prize, PSS…PSS is brilliant, tender, hilarious and ingenious, and unlike anything you have ever seen.

Contact the Centre’s box office at (902) 566-1267, toll free at 1-800-565-0278, or online at confederationcentre.com to book tickets.

Bringing the Bluegrass

Husband & Wife Bluegrass Team Bring The Noise To The Mack

Comprised of New Brunswick’s John and Lisa McLaggan, quirky folk duo Tomato/Tomato present their signature take on old timey roots music at The Mack on February 20.

The couple’s unique sound, strong vocal harmonies, and colourful outlook on life have led to them becoming one of the most sought-after acts in Atlantic Canada. Tomato/Tomato’s dynamic live show features John on vocals and guitar and Lisa on washboard, bass-drum, vocals, and tambourine. It’s not unusual to find her performing all four at once!

Island audiences may recall the group from 2015 Festival of Small Halls appearances in Tracadie and Long Creek, one of just 60 gigs they performed across the Atlantic provinces last year. Other stops included Harvest Jazz and Blues, the Larlee Creek Hullabaloo, and two weeks filling in for David Myles as guest hosts of CBC Radio’s East Coast Music Hour.

The duo released their debut album last year, So It Goes, a strong set of original music that embodies their patented musical style and clever and comedic writing. The album was nominated for multiple accolades and earned the pair an East Coast Music Award for 2015 Roots/Traditional Album of the Year and three Music New Brunswick Awards.

“Their music is bound to put a smile on your face,” says a Here magazine review, while The Musicnerd Chronicles describe the group “striking a wonderful balance between playful and serious at virtually every turn, helping ensure you’re back for another listen by the time the record is over.”

Tomato/Tomato are on deck at The Mack on Friday, February 20 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the box office at (902) 566-1267, toll free at 1-800-565-0278, or online at confederationcentre.com.

Appreciation is extended to Sobeys, the returning title sponsor for LIVE @ The Centre. Media sponsors are The Guardian, Hot 105.5, and Ocean 100.
