-Adam Brazier and EQUITY to host live in-person workshop on ‘safe arts spaces’ Nov. 10-

Islanders from a range of backgrounds will have an opportunity to learn more about developing safe live performance workplaces at a special event later this month.

Not in OUR Space!: Creating safe and respectful spaces in the performing arts is a program for live performance professionals, family members, and others that addresses problems of harassment in the workspace.

The event will be co-hosted by Artistic Director Adam Brazier and Arden R. Rhyspan, executive director of Equity. The panel will also include an Island representative with local knowledge of the subject themes

The event takes place on November 10 at 3 p.m. in the Homburg Theatre at Confederation Centre. All are welcome to participate. This discussion will be followed by a live audience Q&A.

“Great art and artists will only flourish when given a safe and supportive environment in which to create,” reflects Brazier. “It is our responsibility as an organization to create that environment and hold ourselves accountable to it. We hopthe community will join us in this important and timely discussion.”

Discussion topics include the pursuit of safe and respectful workspaces, the welfare of children in the workplace, and the condemnation and addressing of inappropriate behaviour in a work setting such as: abuse of power, bullying, discrimination, harassment or sexual harassment, reprisal, or violence.

There is no cost to attend Not in OUR Space!: Creating safe and respectful spaces in the performing arts, but registration is required. For free tickets, please visit the Confederation Centre Box Office in person, contact them at 902.566.1267, or book online.

A Month of Memorabilia

We’re big believers at Kings Playhouse that the act of remembrance shouldn’t be saved for just one day. Throughout the month of November, we’re proud to present daily glimpses of items and symbols from wartime. We’re honoured to have access to Mr. Wayne Hambly’s personal collection of historical war memorabilia. Wayne has generously shared his meaningful collection with our Remembrance Day audience for a number of years, and this year we bring a small window into it online every day this month. Holding on to pieces of our history helps to remind us of the experiences and stories of those gone before and helps to teach us to do better and be better every day.
